Champlain in Acadia This web site celebrates the 400th anniversary of the arrival of Samuel de Champlain in Acadia in 1604. Champlain was a visionary as well as a practical man. He dreamed not only of adding a great domain to France but of bringing wealth through trade, of spreading the Catholic faith and of penetrating the geographical mysteries of the great and baffling continent.

David Thompson The North American David Thompson Bicentennials (2007 to 2011) recognizes the anniversaries of some of the explorer's greatest achievements. While this initiative will formally commemorate significant events that took place in his life between 1807 and 1811 including trans-mountain crossings and the establishment of the Columbia basin fur trade.
