Description: Historia Canadensis of 1664 was an official summary of the Jesuit Relations pertaining to the Canadian mission. As translator Percy J. Robinson explained, "the French Jesuits decided that the record of their Canadian missions, retold in Latin, the universal language of international intercourse, might appeal to a more cultivated circle of readers, and exert a greater influence." The result, Du Creux's Historia, "resembles a volume of letters rather than a planned history, and is to be read rather for its value as literature than as a candid account of an epoch." Volume II (Books VI-X) covers 1645 to 1656.
